The Pamplin Vol. Fire Dept and EMS has recently been licensed to start running EMS transports. We will be responding to emergency medical calls in our first due area and assisting neighboring departments though mutual aid agreements.

04/22/2007 Poker Run set for Aug 11th, 2007
The second annual Pamplin EMS Poker Run is set for Aug 11 2007. Come out and enjoy a ride in the country and to help raise funds for our EMS department. Please contact Debbie Happel at Rednckgrlva@aol.com for more info.
02/19/2007 Appomattox County 911 Dispatch Center is operational
Appomattox County's 911 Dispatch center is now up and running. This will tremendously help with locating and dispatching emergency calls in the county.
Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) is used to initiate public safety calls for service, dispatch, and maintain the status of responding resources in the field.
All roads, residences, and building are now mapped and loading into a database. The 911 address will now allow emergency personnel to identify locations and help prevent confusing direction to calls.
Thanks go out to Bobby Wingfield, 911 Coordinator for all the hard work he has put into this project.

The Southside Virginia Volunteer Firefighter's Association January meeting will be held at the Pamplin VFD firehouse on Jan. 17th 2007.

A fundraising stew will be held on Feb. 24th 2007 at 11:00 am.

The department's annual stew fundraiser will be held on Nov. 4th 2006. The stew will be ready around 11:00am
07/18/2006 Open House - September 10th
The Pamplin Volunteer Fire Dept and EMS will sponsor an open house on September 10th 2006 1:00-3:00 pm. We will have our new Rescue-Pumper on display as well as a demo of the ambulance that we will be receiving. Join us at 2:00pm for a vehicle extrication demonstration. Bring the kids out for games and refreshments.
07/18/2006 New Ambulance Ordered
Pamplin Volunteer Fire Dept and EMS is pleased to announce that an ambulance order has been placed with Singer Fire. This will enhance our emergency services by adding medical transport.
The Medtec ambulance was made possible with a grant from the Department of EMS.
We expect delivery in the spring of 2007.

Pamplin Volunteer Fire Dept & EMS will sponser a Poker Run on Aug. 19, 2006 (rain date Aug. 26, 2006). Start time 9:30 AM. Start location will be at the Pamplin Volunteer Fire Dept. 2394 Pamplin Road Pamplin, VA 23958
All money raised will be used to fund an ambulance for the Pamplin Community.Take this beautiful ride for a wonderful cause.

02/15/2006 Burn Building Open House
The regional burning building located in Blackstone, will have it's open house on April 1st at 2:00 pm. Funded by The Department of Fire Programs, the burn building is a collaborative effort between Prince Edward and Nottoway Counties. This facility will greatly improve the training opportunities for local firefighters
02/15/2006 EMS Fundraiser set for March 18th
The EMS branch of the fire department is holding a stew fundraiser on March 18th. The stew will be ready at approximately 12:00.
01/11/2006 Firefighter II class March 11th
The Department of Fire Programs is holding a Firefighter II class starting March 11th in Prince Edward County. The course is designed for the Firefighter I who is prepared to assume more of a leadership role in a department. Course consists primarily of classes designed to give the student more knowledge of fireground situations so that he or she can make basic evaluations of safety problems and assume leadership roles in carrying out interior attack and search operations. Hazardous Materials Operations is required to prepare the students to participate in defensive leak and spill control operations. Prerequisites: Must be certified as Firefighter I.

01/11/2006 Basic Pump Operations class April 1st-2nd
Appomattox County Fire Department is hosting a Basic Pump Operations class taught by the Dept. of Fire Programs. The course designed for new operators with emphasis on hands-on operation of pumpers at draft and from hydrants, and relay operations. Sign up at www.vafire.org
12/23/2005 New Rescue/Pumper has arrived.
The department took delivery of our new rescue/pumper from M&W Fire today. Built on a HME P2-XL chassis, the truck features a 1500 GPM pump and a 1250 gallon tank. This unit will also add vehicle rescue capability to the department with its on board hydraulic rescue tools and air bags. It will carry a full complement of forcible entry tools, large diameter hose, and will enhance night time operations with scene lighting provided by a light tower and a 15kw hydraulic generator.

09/29/2005 New Rescue-Pumper update
The body and cab have now been painted and the electrical work is continuing. The radios are also being installed as well as the TNT hydraulic rescue tools. Go the the photo section for updated pictures.
09/24/2005 What is NIMS?
On February 28, 2003, President Bush directed the Secretary of Homeland Security to develop and administer a National Incident Management System (NIMS). The point is that all responders at all levels use the same organizational structures, terminology, procedures and systems all the time. The idea is to achieve interoperability among jurisdictions and disciplines.

08/11/2005 Vehicle Extrication Class set for October 29-30th
Pamplin VFD will host a course designed for Fire and Rescue personnel with basic and intermediate experience in vehicle rescue. Class room and practical evolutions will alert students to new hazards associated with today’s vehicles. Time will be spent on how the laws of physics affect the vehicle and it’s passengers and the outcome this has on tactical considerations. Emphasis is placed on the development of safe and proficient techniques for vehicle stabilization and lifting, and in the use of air bags and hydraulic systems.

03/05/2005 MW Fire to soon begin construction of new Rescue/Engine
Pamplin VFD is proud to announce that MW Fire of Vinton, Virginia is to begin the building of the department's new Rescue/Engine. The HME 1871 P2XL chassis has arrived and manufacturing will soon begin. Look for photos as they become available in the apparatus page of this website.

01/06/2005 Fire Attack Essentials Class to begin on January 25th
A Fire Attack Essentials class will begin at the Pamplin Firehouse on January 25, 2005. This class will be taught by Fire Dept. members Jeff Baldwin and Keith Vogt. This is a recognized class by the Virginia Department of Fire Programs. To sign up, interested persons should contact Jeff Baldwin. A schedule is posted on the bulletin board at the firehouse and in the "Calendar" section of this web-site.

12/21/2004 Appomattox Co. 911 Coordinator to meet with firefighters
January Business Meeting: special guest, Bobby Wingfield, will meet with fire department members to discuss the implementation of 911 in Appomattox Co.
12/18/2004 Fire Attack Class
Training Officer Jeff Baldwin announced that a Fire Attack class will be held in the first quarter of 2005. Fire Attack Essentials provides the basic information and skills necessary to meet the requirements of NFPA1001, Essentials of Firefighting. The course teaches the basic fundamentals of fire fighting training evolutions. This class will consist of 35 hours of Department of Fire Program training. Please contact Jeff Baldwin to sign up.
